Planning a family move? Check more than the income uplift

A household income calculation only helps after the route allows your family members to accompany you.

01

Start with who qualifies

A digital nomad scheme may allow a spouse and children, permit other dependent relatives, or offer no general family-reunification right. Hungary’s White Card falls into the last category. Adding more income does not change that restriction.

02

Then check the household formula

Croatia currently adds €144.90 per accompanying family member to its €3,622.50 monthly reference. Cyprus describes a 20% uplift for a spouse/civil partner and 15% for each child above its €3,500 net monthly requirement. These formulas do not replace relationship and dependency evidence.

03

Check when family applications can be filed

Croatia’s official guidance warns against submitting family applications before the sponsor’s temporary stay is approved. Filing order matters. Prepare civil records, translations, passports, insurance, and appointments while checking the correct sequence.

04

Check work rights separately

Residence permission and employment permission are different questions. Cyprus’s accompanying family cannot undertake local employment or economic activity under the digital nomad scheme. Compare family eligibility, work rights, schooling plans, health cover, and filing sequence before choosing a destination.
